    Great message, although I felt it was delivered in a kinda negative way itself. There’s still some kind of negative energy you have surrounding the topic, and I wonder if you could let that go even more, and how the message might come across differently if you did? In any case, love your channel, will be watching a lot more!

    Soooooo f...kiing glad to see you're still out here doing your thing. You put out the first two books I ever bought to start really learning guitar. Oli Herbert (RIP) of All That Remains mentioned that "Speed Lead Mechanics" was the first major tool that he utilized in developing his licks and he was definitely a god mode player to me back in the day. I had already been covering music for years when I had read that, but I immediately bought it and "Fretboard Mastery". They have been invaluable to me and my progression as a guitat player so THANK YOU. Also, great cover. It's not every day we get covers of DIO that are unique but still familiar.

    Beautiful! Man, thanks a lot for your books :) Close to 40 and just started guitar. Although I wish to play blues and classic rock, my teacher recommended we start with your metal rhythm and lead V1 books. Just finished learning the Whips and Chains and Open Fire. I'm taking my baby steps towards blues improvisation in the A minor and I'm having a lot of "aha" moments just applying things I've learned so far from your books. Cheers Troy!

    I consider myself someone who uses CAGED, but when I say that, I mean that I visually reference chord shapes to know where each interval is in relation to the root, and thus know what interval I'm playing in relation to the underlying progression. That's both major and minor, and doesn't rely as much on the "CAGED" sequence itself; I don't use the sequence for anything. In fact, I just find the roots and their position around my fingers determines the chord shape. Like if I'm playing major with the root on the B string near my 1st or 2nd finger, that's the C shape. I have no idea how this relates to what is normally taught, just my take on it after cobbling together an understanding and experimenting with what works. Edit: moment of clarity after writing the original post. I don't use the sequence because it's confusing in a improv situation. You don't want to think "C shape" when you're playing a "G chord" as it's confusing when you have so little time. You just want to visualize the shape and see the notes light up. So in a sense, that's another criticism of the "system", which is the letters are distracting. It's good for learning initially, as it's easy to remember, but once you get used to just seeing the shapes as the chords go by, you're almost never going to use the sequence.

    • @TroyStetinaMusic
      @TroyStetinaMusic Месяц назад

      I agree. Potentially confusing to use chord names for the shapes. But we need to call the forms something. As we play however, best to just see the notes of say a c-form version of E major as box 3 area of E, and the fact that it’s a C form barre chord is a small detail. It’s about knowing the sound of those shapes and which notes are highlighted gravitation points

    • @yikelu
      @yikelu Месяц назад

      @@TroyStetinaMusic Absolutely true, we do need some shorthand to teach it. "CAGED" is useful as a descriptive mnemonic in that sense. BTW, I had and learned from Speed Mechanics way back in the mid 2000s. Great to see you on YT still doing it!

    using 2 ways pick slanting is also wrong, if you are using downward pick slanting then maintain downward, if you encountered trap then one string should dead and another one is the accent

A month ago I found some of your books in my local music store. Picked up MRG v.1 and it's something I would recommend everyone trying to teach themselves. I'm at the end of chapter 3 now and I haven't got this much progress from a learning method yet. Definitely gonna pick up the other books. The merged staff notation/tabs + the audiofiles get me through all the lessons without wondering what the heck I'm supposed to do. Again, Thank you!
